Overview
This was a collaboration with IBOK on the research project “Heritage in the Anthropocene: The Impact of Climate Change on Historic Monuments in Poland.” I co-created and co-developed survey questions based on expertise in art history, heritage protection, law, and climate change, ensuring they accurately reflected the real challenges faced by managers of Historic Monuments.

Core Problem Statement
This project represented the first stage of research contributing to the KPOZ initiative, aimed at developing an application to support managers of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and listed Historic Monuments in Poland. The second stage involved preparing a risk-reporting form and a pre-pilot survey through field interviews. The findings from both stages informed the planning and design of a research strategy for a digital platform to report climate change-related damage.
Research & Discovery
Research Goals and Questions:
The aim of the research was to understand which actions are necessary to effectively protect monuments from the impacts of environmental changes and human activity. The study focused on the following research questions:
What is the level of awareness among Historic Monument managers regarding the climate crisis and its impact on their work?
What current practices and measures are being implemented by managers to mitigate the effects of climate change?
Which tools and strategies could support managers in minimizing these impacts?
What are the training and educational needs of managers in the context of the climate crisis?
What recommendations can be made to help managers protect cultural and natural heritage and promote sustainable development?
Research Methodology:
The study targeted individuals managing Historic Monuments. While they do not always have direct custodianship over a site, they possess detailed knowledge of its operation. We chose an online survey (CAWI – Computer Assisted Web Interview) as the most effective method, allowing respondents to complete the questionnaire at a convenient time and place. Each manager received a unique survey link, which included 16 open and closed questions plus demographic information. The email list was provided by me, as I had previously collaborated with Historic Monument managers.
